The common starling (Latin Sturnus vulgaris) is a songbird of the starling family, widely distributed over a large area of Eurasia, as well as successfully introduced to South Africa, North America, Australia and New Zealand. In the south and west of Europe, it leads a sedentary lifestyle, and in its northern and eastern parts it is migratory, migrating south during the winter months. Externally (in size, yellow beak and dark plumage) it slightly resembles blackbirds, but unlike them it walks on the ground, and does not jump.
