Brussels sprouts (Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera is a biennial plant of the cabbage family. Green leaf heads are used for food. Grows in a temperate climateA type of cabbage that appeared as a wild plant in 1750 on the outskirts of Brussels. Belgians claim to have grown Brussels sprouts for the first time in 1821, and consider it their proudest national product (along with waffles, chicory, cheeses and Belgian biscuits). The modern variety of Brussels sprouts is frost-resistant. This plant reaches one meter in height, with 20 to 75 small miniature heads growing on the stem. Crystal Brussels sprouts are a prize for the best participants in one of the European Union's scientific programs.
