Empty bench facing Carew Castle, Pembrokeshire, Wales

An ancient Celtic and Roman fort became the glorious Norman and Tudor ruins we see today. The medieval castle was started in 1100, when Gerald of Windsor, a Norman who married Welsh princess Nest Ferch Rhys, worked the site with strategic position over the Carew River.
