Door to Hell, Derweze, Turkmenistan. Door to Hell is a natural gas field in the Ahal Province. It is noted for its natural gas fire which has been burning continuously since it was lit by Soviet petrochemical engineers in 1971, in the middle of Karakum desert. Few foreigners have seen the crater and Tourism officials say the Door to Hell could developed into a key draw for adventure tourist.
