City of Coimbra in Portugal

Coimbra is a Portuguese municipality. The city is bathed by the river Mondego. The city is famous for its University, founded in 1290, among the first in Europe. Today it is the largest university center of the country and houses, as well as local students, about 20,000 students from other cities of Portugal. The University was actually founded in Lisbon and transferred to Coimbra in 1537. Since then he has seen among teachers the greatest intellectuals and European artists, and this has given rise to fame making university center of excellence.
