The cedar forests in Barouk and in Maasser al Shouf are the two main cedar conservation projects in the Shouf Mountains. The cedrus libanis grows in height for some 70 years and then in width for up to 3000 years. Already the phoenicians new about the qualities of this unique timber which almost lead to its extinction
