Acanthocalycium violaceum, native to Argentina, is a globular cactus with many ribs and dense honey-colored spines. Usually solitary, can grow to 10 in height and 5 in diameter. Beautiful lilac flowers to 3 in diameter during late spring and summer. Closely related to Lobivias.
