Adelie penguins are true Antarctic penguins as they spend their entire lives on or around the ice. Early season around the end of October they are returning to their nesting rookeries. Often their path is blocked by sea ice and ice bergs. This berg had been coated in fresh ice after a storm during the night giving it this beautiful texture. Having climbed over this berg the penguins gather in groups to take to the water as they know that leopard seals are lurking in the surrounding seas. Usually if one penguin takes the plunge the whole group follows.
