The astronomical clock Padua Padova

The astronomical clock that dominates the square is the reproduction of the original mechanism place on the southern gate tower of the Reggia Carrarese, built on the extraordinary design by Jacopo Dondi in 1344 and damaged by fire because of skirmishes against moves by Prince Francesco Novello employment Visconti. Of this ancient fourteenth-century instrument with original signs of the Zodiac, re-used by Matthew and John Novello and Gian Pietro of Caldiere for the construction of which ended in 1436. The corniciatura, characterized by Ionic pilasters, is due to John that Mary Falconetto he restored the façade of the tower commissioned by Vitale Lando in 1537.
