The Orthodox monastery of Vvedenskaya Optina Pustyn in the Kaluga region of Russia. Vvedenskaya Optina monastery — stavropighial monastery of the Russian Orthodox Church, located near the town of Kozelsk, Kaluga region, the Kaluga diocese. The monastery is located about 2 kilometers North-East from the city of Kozelsk: the road crosses the Zhizdra river and goes along the monastery grove. In the years 1832-1839 around the monastery was built a low fence with four corner towers. Two kilometers from the monastery, on the same Bank of the Zhizdra, also station is a dead end. In the center of the monastery is the main temple of the monastery — Vvedensky Cathedral. The Cathedral is cruciform churches, the Church of Mary of Egypt, in the South — Kazanskaya Church, built in 1811, in the East of Vladimir. Grove behind the monastery is a Hermitage in which there are round-the-clock service.Here stayed writers Gogol, Dostoevsky and Konstantin Leont'ev. This monastery is one of the most famous in Russia.
