In the central part of Bulgaria are the mountains of Stara Planina, called Bulgarians Balkans. The highest peak is called Botev (2376 m). From south to north western part of their crossing the river Iskar, forming a picturesque canyon length of over 70 km. To the north of Stara Planina stretches area called Predbalkan in whose territory the widespread karst topography.
