Florence, Arizona: St. Anthony`s - a Monastery in the Desert

St. Anthony`s Greek Orthodox Monastery was founded in 1995 in the middle of the Sonoran Desert, south of Florence. Typical plants of the Sonoran desert are visible in the foreground: saguaro and cholla cacti. The palms in the background are desert fan palms, indigenous to Arizona but not to the Sonoran desert.
