This image shows the famous Perseus and Andromeda fountain, one of the finest and largest in Europe. The fountain was designed by William Andrews Nesfield and constructed between 1854 - 1859. The sculptor was James Forsyth and there are 120 water jets hidden within the Portland stone structure. Behind is the historic Witley Court as it stands today. Originally the site of medieval house built in Norman times, this house was rebuilt on a grander scale in the early 1700`s. It was enlarged between 1793 - 1833 with further major transformations between 1851 - 60.nUnfortunately a massive fire destroyed most of the house in 1937 and it has never been occupied since.nRestoration has been ongoing since 1972.nThe golden dome of the adjoining Saint Michael and All Angels Church can be seen in the background. The interior is one of the finest Italian Baroque churches in Britain.
