Architectural detail, Fort Barrancas
Straight-on image of an airhole for ventilation in an exterior wall of Fort Barrancas, an historic fort built by the Spanish in Pensacola, Florida to protect the coastline. The circular air hole is surrounded by a decorative architectural feature of raised scroll work. The blackness of the hold contrasts with the sunlit white painted, textured, plastered wall and scroll work, that fade to blue gray in the shadows. The fort is a popular tourist attraction and Spanish heritage site in the Florida Panhandle.
